Website Visitors Prospective New Dog Owners

Prospective new owners make up about 30% of the puppy inquiries at Chambray Labradors. These are people that may never have had a purebred dog and are new to the dog ownership world. Most tend to be younger people, such as newlyweds, younger couples with small children or live-alone folk both young and old wanting a canine companion.

There is a bit more education needed with this group of searchers and we direct them to many of our Puppy Information write-ups, article and other informative offerings. We encourage them to contact other breeders, cautioning them to stay away from mass-producers, puppy mills and of course pet shops.

Owning a puppy or dog is like having another person living with you. Time has to be made, especially a puppy to tend to all of its needs. New responsibilities have to be taken up for the care of a puppy and it becomes a 24 hours ordeal at the beginning. Puppies have to be fed at least twice a day, however it is their elimination needs that must be addressed or it becomes a major problem if not tended to. Most puppies potty 4 or 5 times a day and urinate at least every 2 to 3 hours, so crating all day is not an option.

Many of those inquiring about puppies have very small children and mistakenly assume that puppies and babies will somehow bond and this is not the case at all. In fact, I make it very clear that babies and puppies do not relate at all and that it takes about a 4 to 5 year old child to really associate well with a puppy.

Another major myth is that children, kids, youngsters or even teenagers will take care of puppies. NOT!!!!!!! Very few situations ever work out where parents purchase a pet and the children assume full responsibility for the care and upkeep of the pet. It just doesn’t happen that way and eventually within days it is the parents that now have another responsibility on their hands.

Training is a must for all dogs and this is something that I really emphasis with new dog owners. This is the reason that we include free dog training with each and every puppy and dog placed through our Puppy & Dog Placement Program. In fact if the prospective new owner doesn’t have the time for our training classes, then we will not place a dog with them.

New dog owners have the option of the following:

A Pet Quality Puppy with the AKC Limited Registration or a Show Quality Puppy with Full Registration and eligibility for participation in our Labrador Retrievers Owner’s Community.
