A “Stud Dog” is more than just a
“pretty face”,
it goes way beyond
outward looks, a true Stud Dog is a
perpetuator of the breed.
It must
possess all those outstanding qualities
that will be passed
down to the
next generation.

Conformational Quality – is first and
foremost in the consideration
of a potential stud dog. It most reflect the
absolute best characteristics as described by the written Breed Standard
for Labrador Retrievers, including temperament as called for by the
standard.
v
Soundness – once passing the stringent
test of Conformational
Quality, the dog must be free of any genetic
conditions that affect
the breed. Radiology for Hips and Elbows to determine viability
to OptiGen Testing for eyes, plus Heart/Thyroid for suspected lines.
v
Prepotent – the
dog must be able to pass on the best qualities on
a consistent and to a
higher percentage to his progeny.
