Chambray Labradors proudly presents the Thanking It Backwards

Thanking It Backwards 08/15/2010

“Pay It Forward” was an excellent movie adaptation where people that were blessed with a rewarding event or life-saving happening, were so thankful that they decided to pass on their good fortunes to those that they could reach.

It was one of those great “feel good” themes that we all should partake in.

What a wonderful world it would be if everyone was to adopt “Pay It Forward” as a way of life, as a new found
human resource religion; the world would be a better place for sure! Instead of celebrating one day out of the week
as most people that say they “believe” in religion do, here you would practice being a good fellow human being every
single day of your life!

Amen! Eureka meets utopia!!!!

But of course reality sets in and we are left in the real world around us where very few relish the good things they have,
where amassing more and bigger is supposed to be better, where selfishness is considered an attribute and kindness is seen
as a weakness, where standing tall sometimes comes at the price of the person that is being stepped on to achieve that higher status.

So amidst all that doom and gloom and sorry way of life that many cling on to, however profess otherwise, I am about to
forage into a pasture of a different color. No, not greener grass territory, more of yesterday’s paler shades of passing
time color, more of what happened before to get us to where we are today!

More of the “paying homage” to those that made it possible for us to be where we are today, kind of saying “thanks” if their actions were somehow responsible for where we are currently standing and if that place that we are occupying is somehow considered a good spot to be in!

A recent phone call from an inquiring mind sent me into the above train of thought,

“I recently attended a dog show here in Virginia and saw a really outstanding Labrador that came from your lines as the
dam of the dog was a Chambray female.”

“Upon further inquiries as to the dogs in the background, I was met with much scrutiny myself and absolutely no
assistance in acquiring of information” continued the person at the other end of the phone call.

Knowing the dog in question and the owner, plus having 8 generations of background from the mother’s side of the dog,
I was able to fill in much of what the person wanted to know.

First things first, I gave credit to where credit was due…………………way back to the original dog that was placed with
me that leads us to where we are now. I spoke of my beginnings in the show arena and the acquisition of a bitch puppy
from some of the most outstanding lines in existence at the time. This all going back 22 years to 1988 and although that
kennel is no longer in existence, in fact the breeders have since passed away, I still give thanks to the late Dr’s Carol
and Francis Rabalais of Beaver Creek Labradors (Pa.) for entrusting me with Beaver Creeks Crystal Chambray.

Crystal was the dam of the very first Chambray female champion, Ch Chambrays Indian Summer, who in turn gave us
the first 2nd generation champion, Ch Chambrays Caleb.

It would be Amber a daughter of Summer’s that would be bred and give us the first 3rd generation champion Ch Chambrays Chisholm Chancey, who in turn gave us 4 champions herself, all 4th generation champions!

It would be one of those 4th generation champions that in turn is the mother of the dog in question by the recent phone call.

The caller was ecstatic to receive all the above information, although I also expressed to her that it is documented at the www.chambraylabradors.com website. Where credit is given where credit is due, to all those that contributed to the
successes of today. A place where our little bit of history with the breed is memorialized for posterity and for all
those that come later can have some relationship to the past.

This is my way of “Thanking It Backwards”, thanking those that have made it possible for me to be where I am at!
Realistically, without those people way back then, there would be no one up here now to take the credit. They laid the groundwork of excellence and then it became up to who ever came along to carrying it further and hopefully do as good or better.

Seeing where we are today, I firmly believe that I have done just that, take something that was already great and continue to keep up those great standards that today are receiving recognition everywhere our dogs go.

So, here’s to all those way back then that cared enough to produce something worth reproducing that had made it possible
for me to pass it forward to those that are reaching out today.

Today, I have the luxury of sitting back and basking in the glory of so many wonderful dogs that give so much love and
devotion to so many lives across the country. After 40 years with this breed of dog and seeing how many hundreds of
lives they have touched; the testimonials and memorials for those dogs are also well documented throughout the website
at different sections.

There are short stories at the Reference Library section that have been submitted through the years, hundreds of testimonials
at the Testimonials Page, boast and brags at the Labrador Owners Community, and now hearing from people far away that
I don’t even know that see dogs that came from our breedings brings me much joy and let’s me know that I did accomplish
my “pay it forward” to those that have come afterwards and my “thank it backwards” to those that entrusted me with something to work with way back then!
